Climate and Energy Vision

The project's overall vision is to create a platform where Skive Municipality, its citizens and enterprises through learning, attitude adaptation, urban development and development of new housing concepts and industrial and commercial development focus on sustainable energy supply and optimised energy use.

Skive aims to be self-sufficient in heat and energy within 20 years. Sun, wind and new energy technologies must - at low energy costs – progressively help to maintain a high quality of life for everybody within the bounderies of Skive Municipality. This is nothing new in Skive. We have focused on new energy solutions through more than 30 years. Skive will now assume the role as a national beacon on climate and energy.

Skive Municipality will become CO2 neutral in 2029

Skive Municipality set in 2008 the ambitious goal of:

  • Skive municipality as a whole must be CO2-neutral by the year 2029 at the latest. The goal involves the entire municipal enterprise, the industry, the agriculture, climate and energy renovation of private housings and of the transport sector.
  • Moreover, Skive Municipality has signed a contract with Danish Society for Nature Conservation to reduce CO2 emissions by 3% per year until 2042 - which corresponds to the municipality as a business must be completely CO2-free by the year 2042.

For this purpose, Skive Town Council allocated 2 million DKK in 2008, 4 million in 2009 and 6 million in 2010. Every year since 1983, the Town Council has earmarked special funds for energy saving measures. This includes major projects like the solar project for 50 million DKK. Furthermore, the municipality is creating a foundation to support the ambitious project of raising the necessary funds to realise various other projects.

The municipality is well under way with thoughts and ideas on solutions to the climate problems and challenges of CO2 reduction in the coming years.
